Welcome to Improvus Newsletter - summer 2010

In this newsletter, as in our previous letter, we would like to present a useful blend of information and news from our industrial segment.

This time, we shall try to answer some of the questions that we often receive: i.e. why is a consultant a good alternative to using one’s own staff or hiring new employees, and what are the benefits of a consultant?

We are not being entirely objective, of course, but we would like to share with you our thoughts and insights regarding this issue. Please let us know if we have missed something or if you think otherwise.

Best wishes,
Mia & Leif

Did you know that...

• When you hire a consultant, you can expect results from the very first day.

• You gain direct access to external consultant expertise.

• A consultant carries out the task assigned, charges for what has been accomplished, but does not subsequently introduce any future costs.

• If your project requires different skills or a change of direction, the network built up by your consultant easily allows for carrying out any project modification or enhancement.

Benefit Consultant

Hiring a consultant has become increasingly commonplace, for a multitude of reasons. There are many advantages to hiring a consultant in the sectors in which we operate.

A consultant is able to provide your company with a broad spectrum of experience gleaned from several different companies and to thus give you objective and independent advice. A consultant can view your business with fresh eyes with the goal of finding the best possible solutions; disregarding any internal problems and contradictions. A consultant always keeps his or her specialty areas updated, whether in terms of trends, developments and future prospects or having contacts and relationships with organizations, associations and professional institutes.

In addition, companies that hire consultants are not only able to eliminate the hiring process — with applications and interviews consuming both time and resources — but are also usually able to add the consultant’s skills to the organization while strengthening and developing their own staff.

Last but not least, Improvus’ consultants supply a piece of the puzzle that is very important. After completing an assignment, we can — if necessary — train your staff in the relevant fields of expertise.

In order to demonstrate our broad knowledge base, we present some examples of assignments that we have either recently commenced or completed.

Additional resources
A client company is in its early stages and has not yet achieved a complete and self-sustaining organization. Many small and large tasks need to be solved. To cope with this, the company turns to experienced consultants from Improvus. Another company occasionally experiences increased workloads for its regular staff. To alleviate this burden, it brings in a consultant from Improvus instead of employing a temporary staff member. Improvus offers a large network as well as flexibility and knowledge covering many disciplines. We can therefore easily find a consultant with the right skills and qualifications to suit the situation your company finds itself in. This form of resource compensation is exploited by several companies.

Large network
A company needed help to size a pressure vessel for a new customer. It contacted Improvus for help. We realized, early on, that the problem of an under-sized pressure vessel could be solved by employing a newly developed technology. We therefore forwarded a contact to a previous customer. The new technology represented a smaller, easier, and much cheaper solution than the traditional pressure-vessel solution. The company subsequently did not have to make a major investment in a new pressure vessel. This ultimately resulted in savings of almost 100 times the cost of the consultant!

Core competence
A company that is developing a new product goes through the directives that it believes will apply to the product. The company quickly realizes that the right skills for this are lacking and therefore hires a consultant from Improvus. Improvus helps out with an analysis of directives and lists the requirements the product needs to follow in order to reach the market. The company also decides that the necessary skills will be needed within the organization and assigns Improvus to train employees. In this way, the company can manage long-term maintenance of both quality of the product, and knowledge of compliance with the directives, and without always having to bring in external resources — other than as a complement for difficult issues.

Apart from the above examples of consultancy, Improvus can help your company with such important assignments as market analysis, testing, documentation, quotations, and tenders. Contacting us may well turn out to be an important and worthwhile step, which interviews with our clients verify. Read these interviews as well as more about us at www.improvus.se.

Providing tailor-made training is just one of Improvus' many strong points.
